Notable changes for this release include the Android and iOS Mobile SDK 3.3. releases
and Hook update to support supports Android 5.0 (Lollipop).

 

Hook Updates for Android 5.0 Support

Hook is now updated to provided support for Android 5.0 (Lollipop). To
start using this version the user must update the Hook App.

 

Known Issues

Video playback can sometimes be interrupted if the closed caption button is clicked
twice during a video. If this occurs the video can be resumed by activating the
closed caption button again.

 

Mobile SDK for Android 3.3.0 Released

 

Updates and Enhancements

  • The SDK is updated to supported FreeWheel version
    5.18.0.

  • The SDK is updated to supported Google IMA version
    Beta9.

  • The SDK is enhanced to improve load time for preroll ads.
    Options are now available for preload and
    promoimage.

Resolved Issues

The following issues are resolved in this release:

  • Closed captions were sometimes obfuscated by the scrubber
    bar.

  • Closed captions were not displaying at intervals in the
    video playback.

  • Videos sometimes play before a play event is
    activated.

  • Closed captions were not appearing on Android
    devices.

Known Issues

Please review the following known issues:

For Google IMA ads, if the same ad is served on multiple ad slots,
and the user skips the ad on the first ad slot, the second ad resumes from the
skipped position.

 

Mobile SDK for iOS 3.3.0 Released

 

Updates and Enhancements

  • The SDK API documentation in now found in the SDK APIDocs
    directory and the SDK release notes are included in the
    readme.txt file.
  • The SDK is enhanced to improve load time for pre-roll ads.
    Options are now available for preload and
    promoimage.

Resolved Issues

The following issues are resolved in this release:

Post-roll ads did not play properly on AirPlay.

 

Known Issues

Please review the following known issues:

Google IMA : If a user seeks to the end of a video while there
is an available midroll ad, the midroll ad will play audio only before the
video content completes.

 

Backlot Paywall Deprecated

Ooyala has deprecated the legacy Backlot Paywall feature in favor of third-party
paywall offerings. For a list of supported paywalls see Third-Party Paywall Integrations.

 

YuMe Adset Migration

YuMe now uses the VPAID OPF module for Flash players. You need to migrate all of your
content using the YuMe ad source to the VPAID ad source in Backlot. You need to

Live Delivery Billing

If you use Akamai as your CDN for Live Delivery, you may soon see Live GB Delivered as a new usage metric on the Usage subtab under the ACCOUNT tab. This metric represents the total number of gigabytes (GB) of live stream content that was delivered via Ooyala's CDN to players, content data networks, or some other destination. Affected customers will see Live GB Delivered in their monthly billing statement.

    • Gibberish Characters (HTML5) - Added a question
      and answer about how to set your browser encoding to Unicode (UTF-8).
      You may see gibberish characters on the HTML5 player if your browser

Hook 1.3.1 Release to Google Play Store

 

This release included the following updates:

  • The Widevine shared object is removed.
  • An issue where the app would crash if a requested video was not available or did

This release includes the following updates and enhancements:

 

V3 Player Updates

An issue where content resume was not dispatched for Google IMA pre-roll ads on Android is now resolved.

An issue with HTML5 where Google IMA post-roll ads did not resume from a pause state and instead the ad would close and the video would restart from the beginning is now resolved.

The following updates and enhancements are included in this release:

  • The Ooyala Mobile SDK for Android Sample Apps GitHub
    repository is now live. Use this portal to get the most up to date sample apps.
    For more information see Sample Applications for the Android Mobile SDK.
  • A new Device Management sample app is available on the Ooyala Mobile SDK for Android Sample Apps GitHub
    repository.
  • Based on Google recommended practices, Ooyala has made the switch to Android Studio. All customer applications are still
    compatible with our libraries, however our sample apps rebuilt in Android Studio. This includes the Core SDK and the
    Freewheel, IMA, and other integrations. For more information see Sample Applications for the iOS Mobile SDK.
  • The OOOoyalaPlayerViewController API is changed. As of this
    release you must instantiate the OooyalaPlayer and use this
    player to create the OoyalaPlayerLayoutController. This is
    shown in the following example code:

  • The Custom Controls folder content is updated to removed legacy and unneeded

  • The ClosedCaptionsStyle and ClosedCaptionsView
    classes are moved from the com.ooyala.android package to the
    com.ooyala.android.captions package.
  • The DebugMode, OrderedMap,
    OrderedMapValue, and other utility classes are moved from
    the com.ooyala.android package to the
    com.ooyala.android.utils package.
  • Support for in app rendering of clickthrough ads is now available.
  • Visibility of the following files is changed from public to
    package-private:
    • VASTAd
    • VASTAdPlayer
    • VASTAdSpot
    • VASTLinearAd
    • VastSequenceItem
    • VASTStream
    • VASTUtils
    • VASTWrapperAd

Resolved Issues

The following issues are resolved in this release:

  • An issue where the app would throw an error if resume(
    )
    was called before setEmbedCode is now
    resolved.
  • The SDK now logs error events to the console.
  • An issue where VisualOn videos would show a blank screen, and a
    long delay for video to start was perceived when the play event was initiated,
    is now resolved.

  • A sample app for the Apple Watch is now available in the Ooyala Mobile SDK for iOS Sample Apps GitHub
    repository.
  • The OOOoyalaPlayerViewController API is changed. As of this
    release you must instantiate the OOOoyalaPlayer and use this
    player to create the OOOPlayerViewController. This is shown in
    the following example code:
    OOOoyalaPlayer *player = [[OOOoyalaPlayer alloc] pcode:PCODE domain:domain];
    OOOoyalaPlayerViewController *controller = [[OOOoyalaPlayerViewController alloc] initWithPlayer:player];
  • To improve SDK update and integration tasks the iOS SDK is updated to use static frameworks and static libraries are deprecated. This change includes the core SDK and Freewheel, IMA, and other integrations.

    To update apps for this release removed all OoyalaSDK.a and header references and use the OoyalaSDK.framework reference and change all header references to framework references. For example:

    Replace:

    #import "OOPlayerDomain.h"

    With:

    #import <OoyalaSDK/OOPlayerDomain.h> 
  • The Custom Controls folder content is updated to removed legacy and
    unneeded files and add the following missing files:
    • OOClosedCaptionsSelectorBackgroundViewController
    • OOClosedCaptionsSelectorViewController

  • Support for in app rendering of clickthrough ads is now available.

Resolved Issues

The following issues are resolved in this release:

  • FreeWheel integrated apps would show a blank screen at a cuepoint
    event if no ad was available.
  • Google IMA ads were not working on iOS apps.
  • The video time and content were not in sync after a seek event.
  • A seek event would cause the app to crash on live streams.
  • Video overlapped the text in a Google IMA ad.
  • Google IMA ad ended events were failing.

Ooyala Integration with Amazon Fire TV

 

We are excited to announce support for Amazon Fire TV HTML5 web apps, which allows you to quickly and easily syndicate content to the Amazon Fire TV line of devices with Ooyala.

 

Ooyala now provides a quick and easy way to publish content from Backlot using Universal Syndication Feeds to Amazon Fire TV. The feed from Backlot containing content and metadata is transformed into content categories on the Amazon Fire TV interface, where end users can select content categories of their choice and view all videos related to that category on Fire TV.

Fixes

The following issues are resolved in this release:

  • The player crashed when Widevine streams were played using
    encrypted loopback.
  • The player had intermittent scrubber issues with Widevine mid-roll
    ads using AirPlay.
  • All ad types had intermittent playback issues using
    Playready HLS.
  • FreeWheel VideoView events fired during pre-rolls
    ads instead of on content start.
  • The scrubber did not work during a replay of PlayReady HLS
    content.

  • Player JavaScript API Parameters: Added a new
    table summarizing all query parameters and embedded parameters for the Ooyala V3
    Player API.
  • The multi-feature samples located https://github.com/ooyala/code-samples have been updated to include fixes to PHP related errors. These samples are

    Player and other technologies.
